Bookable-Space African-American Lit-Literary Salon

A Literary Community

Bookable-Space African-American Lit-Literary Salon was founded in 2020 to celebrate African-American literature. Funded by the British Association for American Studies and the US Embassy, the project is hosted by writer, academic, and literary producer, Yvonne Battle-Felton.

About Yvonne:

I am an American writer living in the UK. A writer of fiction and Creative Nonfiction, my writing has been published in literary journals and anthologies. My debut novel Remembered (Dialogue Books) was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction (2019), the Not the Booker, and shortlisted for the Jhalak Prize. Remembered was published in the US in February 2020 (Blackstone Publishing).

I have a Creative Writing PhD from Lancaster University and am a Lecturer in Creative Writing and Creative Industries at Sheffield Hallam University. For the past eight years, I have been creating and co-creating literary events like monthly literary salons, monthly true-story open mic nights, writing panels and workshops, and other events.

I aim to make guests and audiences feel welcomed, appreciated, and seen.
