About the event
Telling it Like It's Lived is a monthly true story open mic night where people share their true stories loosely exploring the month's themes. Open to all (over 18), people are welcome to join in to listen as storytellers, writers, poets, and anyone with a true story to tell, share their stories. It's a welcoming event hosted by writer, academic, and creative Yvonne Battle-Felton and co-hosted by Sarah, the wonderful librarian at Dewsbury Library.
It's a free event, no tickets necessary and free, light refreshments are provided.
As of June 20th, we are supported by Community Plus, Kirklees Council. This will mean we can offer food like sandwiches, soups, and/or salads. Sharing food and stories brings people together.
If you'd like a 3-5 minute true story open mic slot, contact Yvonne Battle-Felton (you can reach me on this website). The theme changes each month but there's always room for open themes. It's a platform and space for people with all levels of writing experience so if you aren't sure your true story fits, contact Yvonne. Though it's a storytelling open mic, stories come in many forms. Participants share poetry, personal essays, memos, notes, lists, memories, and more in a variety of forms.
It really is a magical night.
